How it works

Your first split takes about five minutes

No bank connection, no card, no setup wizard. Here is the whole flow, from creating a group to clearing the last balance.

The flow

Four steps, start to finish

  1. 01

    Create a group

Pick a template — family, friends, trip, couple or your own — and a default currency. Invite people by share link, email or QR code. They can accept now, later, or view without joining.

  2. 02

    Add what you spend

Amount, who paid, and who shared it. Recent categories and participants are remembered, so the second expense is faster than the first. Add a receipt photo if you want the record.

  3. 03

    Choose how it splits

Equally, by exact amounts, by percentage, by shares, or excluding people who weren't there. The total is checked before saving — a split that doesn't match the bill cannot be saved.

  4. 04

    Settle up

DueCircle works out the smallest set of payments that clears every balance, shows the expenses behind each figure, and lets you record the payment however you actually paid.

Worked example

A ₹3,000 hotel room, four people

The simple case, so the harder one below makes sense. Four equal shares, no remainder. Anyone not selected owes nothing.

Hotel room, two nights₹3,000.00
  • Aarti₹750.00
  • Ben₹750.00
  • Chen₹750.00
  • Dev₹750.00
Dinner, three people$100.00
  • Priya+1¢ rounding$33.34
  • Sam$33.33
  • Tom$33.33

The hard case

What happens when it doesn't divide evenly

$100 across three is $33.333… — a number that doesn't exist in dollars. Most software rounds each share to $33.33 and silently loses a cent, or rounds up and invents one. DueCircle allocates in whole cents using the largest-remainder method, so shares sum back to exactly $100.00. The single leftover cent is assigned deterministically and labelled, so the person carrying it can see why. The same logic runs for every currency.

The bill split calculator runs the same allocation engine, in your browser, with no account required.
