FAQ
Frequently asked questions
If your question isn't here, get in touch and we'll answer it — and probably add it to this page.
- Is DueCircle really free?
- Yes — completely, and permanently. There is no premium tier, no trial that expires, no feature locked behind a paywall and no card required. Every feature described on this site is free for every user. The site is supported by advertising, which is why you will see ads on these pages and never inside your private group data.
- Do I need an account?
- The calculators and guides on this site need no account — they run entirely in your browser and store nothing. To use DueCircle itself — creating groups, tracking expenses and bills, and settling up — you create a free account with just an email address, so your data stays safe and in sync across your devices. There is never a card required, and we never connect to your bank.
- Does it connect to my bank?
- No. DueCircle never connects to a bank account or card, never holds your money and never moves money on your behalf. Expenses are recorded by you and your group. This is a deliberate design choice rather than a missing feature: it removes an entire category of risk from a product about trust.
- Can it handle more than one currency?
- Yes, from day one. Each amount carries its own currency and is stored in exact minor units, so currencies with zero decimal places (like the Japanese yen) or three (like the Kuwaiti dinar) are handled correctly rather than assumed to be cents. In a mixed-currency group, balances are tracked separately per currency rather than converted at a rate you did not pick.
- How does settling up work?
- DueCircle works out a settlement plan that clears everyone's balance in a small number of payments — matching the largest debtor to the largest creditor until everybody is square — and you can see the expenses and past settlements behind each balance. You then make the payment between yourselves, outside the app, and mark it recorded. A richer settlement flow, with named payment methods and attached proof, is planned.
- Can everyone in the group see everything?
- Today, everyone in a group sees that group's expenses and balances, and the group's creator is its admin — controlling invites, membership and settings. Data in one group is never visible from another. Finer-grained roles, such as view-only access for an accountant or a traveller who is not paying, are planned but not in the app yet.
- What happens to my data if I stop using it?
- Your data is yours. Self-serve data export and account deletion are on the way; until they ship, contact us and we will export or delete your data for you, according to our retention policy. Transferring a group you created to another member, so the rest of the group keeps its history, is planned too.
- Do I need to install an app?
- No. DueCircle runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet or desktop, and is built mobile-first. Native mobile apps are planned, but only once the web experience is complete and reliable.
- How accurate are the split calculations?
- Amounts are never stored as decimal numbers, which are the usual source of rounding drift in money software. Every value is an exact whole number of minor units, and every split method is covered by automated tests that verify the shares always sum back to the original amount — including awkward cases like ₹100 across three people.
